Because of the Corona-virus, there has been great thought put into making a few changes to my review of the portfolios this year. I do not want to "handle" the paper this year. I am currently not planning on going out to a restaurant or coffee shop as usual for portfolios. I do, however, want to provide you with the same excellent portfolio review that you are expecting. How can we do this?
OPTIONS, OPTIONS, OPTIONS!

1. Digital with a flash drive. You can mail a flash drive of your child's work; I review that flash drive with documents, PDFs, videos, and pictures. I send that back to you in the mail along with your review form. These documents would be what you would normally place in your 3-ring binder. I will disinfect it before and after touching it (before returning it to you via mail).
2. Digital with Google docs or OneDrive. You send me a link to invite me to your documents. I look at them. I then send your review form to you via snail mail or digitally.
3. Messenger (Facebook). I've had moms create an "album" for just me to view. The album can be shared with just me or sent from your computer via FB messenger. I review the pictures of the student work and activities that you have completed. We could video call too if you would like. Just let me know.
4. Your online format. Some of you had expressed interest in an online portfolio. Just share it with me via email. Interested in this option?
5. USPS Mail. I will do them via mail as before, but I will let them sit a minimum of two days before opening them.
6. Skype. When there is a face-to-face meeting necessary, we can Skype. I no longer request or advise to send documents over Skype. I have attempted this in a practice call and it seemed overwhelming to me and my 'practice mom'. Possible, but not great, for the amount of the portfolio's volume of information to be shared on the call. Let's stick to messenger or email!
Check out these sites that provide online portfolios. THESE ARE OPTIONAL, but could be fun to create.
https://homeschoolplanet.com/features/ ($8/month)
https://www.portfoliogen.com/ (upgrade options cost additional)
For each of these review options, I will complete the regular paper form that I always complete. After payment, I will, based on your preferences, either
1. Mail it to you via snail mail. (If you mail me a physical portfolio, I will mail the form back with your portfolios).
2. Send it digitally to your email address. (This is my preferred method as there is less chance of infection spreading. The virus can last on cardboard - a paper product - for 1 day) https://www.businessinsider.com/how-long-can-coronavirus-live-on-surfaces-how-to-disinfect-2020-3
My email address for PayPal is kristenjadkins@gmail.com
The payment is $35/first child. $15 for children numbers 2-4. Free for any additional children.
For Skype reviews, please send me a text or a message regarding your general preferred time of day and any preferred day of the week (as well as your contact name/email). The review will then be scheduled with you. Here's a link to join Skype https://join.skype.com/invite/vMU23GLBJSAy
WHEN WILL THIS BEGIN? Wednesday, May 20.
Message me for appointments on Skype and begin mailing the flash drives then.
Do you have any questions, problems, special considerations? Email me at kristenjadkins@gmail.com with the subject line: Portfolio.
A word about extensions with the WVDoE: I am recommending that you do not wait on these reviews although you do have the liberty. I believe that we can accomplish this as homeschoolers. If the portfolio is what you were planning on completing then there is no need to delay. If you were planning on testing, you may need a bit of time to put the portfolio together, but please do not put this off. Get closure on this year before beginning the new school year. I'm here to help.
