Getting my first portfolios graded was a very nervous time for me. Not towards my reviewer, but just the thought- Was I doing enough? Gathering all my papers and heading out to do my review was just the beginning of an amazing journey into homeschooling. I met with Kristen the first time and she was amazing! She explained that all children learn in different ways, and they all learn at different times. Being a mom of five and having a special needs child has been challenging.

When I first started homeschooling, I had my second child, a 5th grader at a 1st-grade level. It was very confusing as to where to start her learning. After some evaluation, I just started to teach at the level she was at. Mind you, she was in fifth grade! We started at a first-grade level.

My first daughter was just pulled from 7th grade. We did some testing and realized she couldn’t write a complete sentence! So having second-grade work in a seventh graders folder was no problem for Kristen! She saw the progress and that is all that matters. My third daughter had a rough start in learning, she was in second grade when I pulled her out and she was severely behind on reading. Kristen spoke to me in an encouraging way and guided us through.

After my first portfolio review, Kristen let me know about different curriculums and approaches to help my children. I was super relieved when Kristen understood our circumstances! Kristen is very knowledgeable in many different types of teaching. Each one of my children learns in a different way, and Kristen takes that to heart when portfolio time comes. Since having Kristen in our lives, it has helped my children blossom, grow, and improve in all their subjects! Once I had my first visit, I knew that I was able to teach each one of my children the way I saw fit. With having this freedom, and now seven years later, my children are at, or above, their grade level! I couldn’t thank Kristen enough for understanding that not all children learn the same or at the same time.

Kristen’s patience and encouragement have been such a blessing to our family! I highly recommend Kristen Adkins! She is a pleasure to talk with and her grading expectations are phenomenal! - Crystal, Fayette Co.

Kristen performed my portfolio reviews for the last 4 years.  She made it very easy and convenient by having sign-ups for times and local places to meet so that I didn't have to travel far.  She was very understanding, even when I brought in a whole year's worth of my son's work the first year I met with her.   She had great suggestions and was an encourager and mentor for me on my homeschooling journey. -A. Kristen has evaluated my son's portfolio every year since we started our homeschool journey.  She is always professional, timely, and compassionate. Kristen is a wealth of homeschool resources and always an encouragement. Will always recommend her! -Megan W.

I am so happy to have found Kristen Adkins to do my grandson's portfolio evaluation! This is the first portfolio I have put together. Her knowledge and guidance were invaluable in helping me to accomplish what initially seemed an overwhelming task.  I highly recommend her services and will definitely use her again (and again) myself. Thank you, Kristen, you are a Godsend!      -Sue Grace

I really appreciate Kristen's evaluation of my children's portfolio's for 2010-2011.  This being our first year homeschooling, I didn't know exactly what to expect or what was expected in preparing a portfolio.  Her feedback and encouragement in this area were a blessing.  I also can't express how pleased I am with her timeliness.  I was able to submit reports to the board with ample time to spare. Great way to end a great year!  I look forward to working with her in the future.                      ~Jaime Ward

Thank you so much for doing Zoe's evaluation this year. The personal letter included, with suggestions and encouragement, was just what I needed. I appreciate how quick and thorough you were and cannot imagine using anyone else for this!   -Sandra Rena
